The origin of the Castle of Monterado can be dated back to 1267, when it was built on the foundations of an ancient parish church of the Avellanite monks. The history of this residence is long and rich. Its present form was designed by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli. Of exceptional interest are the splendid Halls: the Four Seasons Room, ideal for special dinners, the Music Room, the Breakfast Room which is the most fascinating, the Billiard Room and the Library Room with its eighteenth-century shelves full of ancient books. The frescoes that cover the Halls are very well preserved, all commissioned by Prince Maximilian of Beauhamais, grandson of Josephine Buonaparte, on the occasion of his marriage to the daughter of Tsar Alexander of Russia. The suites, also all frescoed, are rich in atmosphere and remote suggestions. On the top of a typical Marche hillock, it is surrounded by a large Italian garden and a vast wood of secular plants. Add to this the warm hospitality of Orlando and Kira, current owners of the Castle, who have the ability to make guests feel immediately at ease. A magical combination, perfect for those who want to give their vacation the unforgettable atmosphere of a place out of time.
